Joseph Wilson of Sandhutton, a farmer, married Mary Proctor of Borrowby at Leake Church in 1821.

At the date of the 1841 census Joseph and Mary Wilson were living in Borrowby (Gueldable) with their daughter Martha and Amos Proctor, Mary's elder brother.
Joseph Wilson died at Borrowby in 1848, aged 68. In the 1851 census return his widow Mary is shown as a proprietor of land, aged 66 and born at Carthorpe, North Yorkshire.
